Pitch Perfect. What you need to know to gain the confidence to sell yourself, your company and your idea.

THE ART OF THE PITCH

The pitch is truly one of the most powerful development tools in the selling process and of course, it is the most important tool you can use to accomplish your ultimate goal – selling yourself, your company, your idea, or all three.

Because pitches are so important, the presentation of yourself, your company, and your idea demands a great deal of fine tuning. Naturally, being a good public speaker helps as you’re going to need to sell the “funny” as well as the “emotional.” But even if you’re not comfortable in front of a crowd, you can craft and format your pitch in such a way that makes it easy to present, easy to follow and easy for you to pull people in and get them emotionally invested in you and your project.

Before you even enter the room, the pitch development process is a must. Solid stories of people, companies, and ideas almost always pitch themselves. By understanding the process, you’ll see the holes more easily, identify awkward spots and track key moments in your career or your project – all of which will get your pitch to a place where you have the best possible opportunity for a sale.

"I first met Jill Gilbert a few years ago when prepping for a Warner Bros pitch. Working so closely for six months, our team got caught in a development loop with an embarrassment of riches that we had difficulty editing into a 10 minute pitch. After hearing our concept and learning about the characters...for TWO hours...Jill recited our story back to us in five minutes better than we had ever heard it ourselves. She is our muse and I will never go to another pitch without meeting her first. "

"We writers have a tendency to get bound up in detail; we're so close to our own ideas that we can't see the proverbial forest for the trees. Jill knows how to cut through that thicket; she's the Paul Bunyan of pitching! Jill is brilliant at helping writers find the unique hook and core emotional idea in their stories. She's also an exceptional performance coach. We developed pitches and stories together at Disney; she taught this stumbling overexplainer how to pitch with confidence, and I enthusiastically recommend her."

"Jill's tutelage was invaluable. I learned more about the art of the pitch from her in one meeting than I did in a LIFETIME of working in the animation field. Her knowledge and expertise has given me a confidence that I never had before. She expelled all of the 'myths' and 'mysteries' surrounded in pitching to a major studio."
