Pitch Perfect

What You Need to Know to Sell Your Animation Idea

The Goal

Pitching is about creating an emotional relationship between the seller and the buyer. To accomplish this, you need to hook in your audience in the first 30 seconds of your presentation.

Pitch Philosophy

The pitch is truly one of the most powerful development tools in the filmmaking process and of course, it is the most important tool you can use to accomplish your ultimate goal – selling your idea.

Because pitches are so important, the presentation of your idea or story demands a great deal of fine tuning. Naturally, being a good public speaker helps as you’re going to need to sell the “funny” as well as the “emotional.” But even if you’re not comfortable in front of a crowd, you can craft and format your pitch in such a way that makes it easy to present, easy to follow and easy for you to pull people in and get them emotionally invested in your story.

Before you even enter the room, the pitch development process is a must. Solid stories almost always pitch themselves. By understanding the process and working through it with your idea or story, you’ll see the holes more easily, identify awkward spots and track the character development – all of which will get your pitch to a place where you have the best possible opportunity for a sale.
