Jill Frenzel Gilbert is the founder and principal of One Plus Productions, a consulting and production company specializing in pitch coaching and product brand management. Gilbert recently completed producing theme park attractions for Universal Studios Singapore which opened in March 2010. She was primarily responsible for managing the relationship with DreamWorks Animation, with whom she developed these projects.
In the Fall 2007, Gilbert produced a series of animated shorts entitled "The Misadventures of Bob Paparazzo" for VH1 Online and Mobile. Gilbert consulted for MTV Networks on their Liquid TV Online pilot program. She was also a consultant for the Taiwanese government on creating business opportunities between Taiwanese animation studios and major media companies in Hollywood. Gilbert maintains several private clients with whom she provides executive, business development, and pitch consulting services. Throughout her eighteen year career, Gilbert has been instrumental in the development and production of over 60 live action and animated feature films.
Prior to founding One Plus Productions, Gilbert served as Vice President of Creative Affairs, The Walt Disney Company, DisneyToon Studios, where she spearheaded the creation of over 20 top-selling direct-to-video/DVD family feature films, from concept to release. Such titles include The Jungle Book 2, Cinderella III, and The Emperor’s New Groove II, among others.
During Gilbert’s tenure at The Walt Disney Company, she learned how to pitch and went on to teach writers, directors, producers, and creators how to follow the "Disney" model. Gilbert was responsible for not only pitching to executives in her division but also to other executives in various divisions at the company. In addition, she pitched to partners of The Walt Disney Company, including Hasbro, McDonald’s, Kimberly Clarke, and The Feld Company. Her techniques evolved once Gilbert left The Walt Disney Company, as she realized that these philosophies could be utilized not only to pitch media but also for companies and projects in other industries.
Gilbert’s business development strategies have evolved from her first experiences in Hollywood as an intern. She continued to use the same techniques throughout her career to keep her professional trajectory moving forward. These strategies allowed others to see that the pitch tools in her "tool belt" (aka critical thinking, pitching, managing, writing skills, etc.) were transferrable to other media sectors, thereby leading her to transition to related industries as her career climb continued.
Gilbert uses all of these strategies in her "Here’s the Pitch" seminars for individuals, companies, schools, and organizations as well as with her private clients. Because of Gilbert’s extensive experience in Hollywood, having worked at every studio in town, she has a clear understanding of not only the business norms but also of the psychological issues surrounding how business decisions are made, giving her insight on how to manage even the most illogical and unpredictable of business situations.
Having developed solid relationships with top-tier industry talent and professionals, Gilbert founded The One Plus Hub in 2005 with the goal of bringing together the animation industry’s leading creative and business minds. Throughout the year, she hosts events in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and San Diego for the animation community. Today, The One Plus Hub has more than 1000 members across the U.S. and worldwide and her events attract participants from a variety of animation-related industries including branding, graphics, game design, location-based entertainment, publishing, toy design, and many others.
With her strong desire to share her experiences and educate others, Gilbert has been a guest lecturer at UCLA Extension, Women in Animation, Women in Toys, Emerson College, and College of the Canyons. Gilbert created a series of short videos under her "Here’s the Pitch" brand to further spread her message. She also published the article "It’s Who You Know: One Plus Hub Highlights the Importance of Networking" in the November 2008 issue of Animation Magazine.
Gilbert is the mother of two children and resides in Los Angeles.
